Something comfortable which doesn’t restrict your movements like jeans, loose skirts, jogging bottoms and T-shirts are ideal. We usually dance in bear feet or you can wear soft soled shoes like ballet shoes. Its always a good idea to bring a drink with you too.
If you enjoy the classes then you might want to invest in a hip scarf, a belt of coins on material with jingle when you move. Ebay has a great variety at reasonable prices.
Do I need to be really fit and show my belly off?
No, Belly Dance accommodates lots of different fitness levels so no matter how unfit you are you will be able to Belly Dance. Big or small bellies are welcome in the class but you do not need to show them off!
If you are undertaking a new fitness regime I recommend that you consult a doctor first.
What are the benefits of Belly Dancing?
Belly Dancing like other dance classes can have health benefits. Belly Dance is a great exerise and allows you to move your body in a different way to other classes. Despite its name its not just your belly that is used, you hips, chest, back and arms are all major elements of the dance. Its great as a standalone class but it also compliements other exerises.
It has other benefits too; the classes give you an opportunity to forget your every day worries, learn something new, increase yourself confidence, make new friends and simply have fun!
